Also, the disc drive seems to be "hunting" when it hits that 50% mark.
I've tried using both clown and DVDFab, and in both instances, the rip aborts at exactly 50%. I've ripped plenty of blu ray main movies to file structure using clown_bd, AnyDVD, and eac3to, but I can't seem to rip my copy of Aliens.
